How will you respond to uncertainty?
Impossible to Predict, Possible to Plan
People are unpredictable, and therefore the future is unpredictable. In Christian terms, we call it free will, and it means we believe that God grants us the ability to choose our path. The path we choose affects others in ways we cannot predict or imagine. Hence, it’s impossible to predict future events in our lives, the stock market, or the World, BUT it is possible to plan for them.
It’s easy to see this in the war in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin waged an unprovoked war on a European country that he expected to win in a couple of days. President Volodymyr Zelensky’s COURAGE was unexpected and applauded as he led the Ukrainian people in defiance of Russian occupation. The senseless loss of lives and suffering of the people in Ukraine as they are indiscriminately shelled and displaced sends shockwaves of change into the future that will last for generations.
The Power to Choose and the Power to Change
But it is not just world leaders and significant events that change the World. All people, including you and I, have the power to choose and the power to change, especially in a free society like ours. In times of uncertainty like this, when the stock market is down, a war is raging in Europe, and prices continue to go up, it is easy to forget that we all have a role to play and we can all help make a change.
Our instinctive response to uncertainty is fear and self-preservation. Stockpiling food, fuel, ammunition, and gold are examples of our actions in the name of self-preservation. But we are capable of so much more than just self-preservation. Every one of us has the power to make decisions that reach far beyond ourselves.
How will you help make a change?
The way forward is to seek opportunities to help others and wage war against the evil we see and fear. For Shelly and me, that initially means focusing our charitable giving on supporting besieged Ukrainians and refugees through the American Red Cross. We don’t know what else to do, but we are working on it.
Think about what it is you can do to combat fear and make a change. Taking an active role changes the outcome, saves lives, and mitigates human suffering. BE COURAGEOUS IN THE FACE OF FEAR AND UNCERTAINTY.
Those are my thoughts, have a great Thursday!
